THE ASSOCIATION -
Jayewardenepura Medical Faculty Alumni Association Faculty of Medical sciences University of Sri Jayewardenepura
NAME -
The Association shall be known as Jayewardenepura Medical Faculty Alumni Association (JaMFAA)
REGISTERED OFFICE -
The Registered office (Secretariat) of the association shall be situated at Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, but may be changed at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
OBJECTIVES -
The objectives of the association shall be –
- To encourage, foster and promote close relations between the Faculty, any other associations working to the benefit of the Faculty and its alumni and among the alumni themselves.
- To promote and support the maintenance of high standards of the Medical Faculty.
- To facilitate continuing education to its members (alumni) to maintain professional standards.
- To assist and support the Faculty financially and otherwise.
- To initiate, assist and support activities which are of interest and benefit to the alumni.
- To promote the interests of alumni association in the affairs of the Faculty and to ensure that the programmes are developed for the benefit of the alumni.
- To promote close relations between alumni and students of the Faculty and to support student welfare programmes.
- To provide exchange of information between alumni and the Faculty and its students.
- To promote any other objective, which may enhance and compliment the above objectives.
MEMBERSHIP -
- The number of members of the association is not limited.
- Members of the association shall be of three categories –
- Founder members
- Ordinary
- Honorary and honorary founder members
- A person eligible for founder membership is any person who attended the inaugural meeting or sent letters of excuses.
- A person eligible for ordinary membership is any person who has been an undergraduate or a post-graduate student in the Faculty.
- A person eligible for honorary membership is a person
Who is not eligible for ordinary membership; and who has rendered distinguished service to the Faculty and is elected Honorary Member in terms of rule 8 (c) hereof. An honorary member who attended the inaugural meeting is eligible for honorary founder membership. - One honorary member will represent the Faculty Board.
ADMISSION OF MEMBERS -
- Application for the ordinary membership shall be in writing on a prescribed form proposed and seconded by two members of the association.
- The Executive Committee (vide infra) shall have the power to accept or refuse any application for membership.
- The association may, at a general meeting, on the recommendation of the Executive Committee, elect any persons eligible under rule 7 (e) hereof as an Honorary Member of the association.
LIFE MEMBER -
- Any ordinary member who has paid the prescribed life Membership Fee; or
- Any Honorary Member elected under rule 8 (c) hereof; shall be deemed to be a life member of the association.
ADMISSION FEES AND SUBSCRIPTIONS -
- Every person whose application for ordinary membership has been accepted by the Executive Committee shall pay to the association the following fees as may be prescribed:
- Annual subscription
- Five year subscription
- Life Membership fee
- All fees prescribed under these rules shall be effective only after conformation at a general meeting of the association.
BENEFITS AND RIGHTS OF MEMBERS -
- Every ordinary member shall be entitled to all the benefits that may become available to the association including the right –
- To receive notice of meetings, reports, copies of audited accounts and news letters.
- To attend and vote at Annual General Meetings and/or Special General Meetings;
- To be elected to the Executive Committee; and
- To inspect the books of the association subject to such conditions which may be imposed by the Executive Committee; and
- To receive any regular publications/journal of the association at a subsidized rate.
- Every honorary member shall be entitled to receive notice of meetings, reports, news letters and copies of audited accounts and participate in the activities of the association, but shall have no right to vote or be elected to hold any office.
