Faculty of Medical Sciences was recognised for its support for plastic recycling
Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) was recognised for its outstanding contribution made to the process of collection and sending the PET plastic bottles for recycling.
Dr. Sajith Edirisinghe, Lecturer, Department of Anatomy, and the convener of the Canteen Development Committee initiated the PET plastic bottle collection project at the Faculty of Medical Sciences in early 2020. By October 2021, more than 100 Kg of PET plastic bottles collected at Faculty premises were sent for the recycling process.
The Faculty of Medical Sciences has planned to expand the plastic collection and direct for a recycling project in a wider format in the future to convert the Faculty of Medical Sciences into a zero single-use plastic zone.
