Ceremonial opening of the new Professorial Paediatric Unit Complex of the Colombo South Teaching Hospital
Three floors of the eight-storied new millennium building of the Colombo South Teaching Hospital were completed and handed over on 26th August 2021. The construction of the project was undertaken by the State Engineering Cooperation. Sri Lanka Army and the Army Seva Vanitha Unit were instrumental in the completion including the provision of furniture and equipment. The Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps factory in Dombagoda manufactured the 250 iron beds to match with recommended ward specifications.
The ASVU provided mattresses, bedsheets, pillowcases, pillows, bedside cupboards, and other pieces of furniture as well as accessories to the three floors, including the pediatric floor.
General Shavendra Silva and Mrs. Sujeewa Nelson formally handed over the completed wards. Consultant Paediatricians - Dr. Shanthini Ganeshan, Dr. Ruwanthi Perera, and Dr. Shiran Fernando, and other relevant staff members were present at the opening ceremony.
A simple house warming ceremony was conducted at the pediatrics ward in the presence of Prof Aloka Pathirana, the Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences, the Director, Dr. Sagari Kiriwandeniya, Deputy Director, Dr. Lasitha Malalasekera, and the academic staff members of the Department of Pediatrics on the 27th of August 2021.
