Inter-Higher Education Institutional Awards Ceremony
for Creative Talent - 2012
This contest was organised by the Sports and Talents Development Division of the Ministry of Higher Education. It was held under the following divisions,

The Finals and award ceremony were held on 23rd February, 2013 at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre, while the Tamil Medium finals were held on 21st February, 2013 at the same venue.
The competition was telecast throughout on TV Derana and selection of winners was by a panel of judges. There was no SMS based voting system.

Sasini Kamalka Chandrasinghe

Currently a fourth year Medical student at the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, 23 year old Sasini is a past pupil of Bishop’s College. She entered the world of music with the Piano, at the age of five. Since then, she has been under the guidance of the late Mrs. Marjorie Loos, Miss. Savitri Jayatilleke, Mrs. Bridget Halpe & Mr. Eshantha Peiris. She was introduced to the Cello at the age of thirteen by Miss Savitri Jayatilleke, and is currently under the tutelage of Mrs. Dushyanthi Perera.
She is an Associate of Trinity College London in both Piano & Cello, and also holds the Diploma of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music for Piano Music Performance. She performed as a Soloist on the Piano with the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka at the Young Soloists’ Concert 2010.
As a Cellist, she is a Past member of the National Youth orchestra, and a member of the Cantando Cello Ensemble and the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka.
Sasini has also studied Hindustani Vocal music at Kalabhumi Kalayathanaya, Nugegoda. She obtained the title of Vishrada in vocal music under the guidance of Sangeet Nipun Manjula Seneviratne.
While at school, she was a Senior prefect, Captain of the Table Tennis Team, President of the General Knowledge Club, Writer, Scrabbler, Debater and Singer, and has won many awards for both academic and extra- curricular activities, including the awards for the Best Results at GCE O/L & GCE A/L (Science Stream) Examinations.
At the faculty, she is an active member of the Arts Circle and the Nature and Photography Club. At the Annual Competitions held prior to the faculty talent show, she has won first place at the English singing competition in two consecutive years, and was also placed first in the Sinhala singing competition in 2011. She was also among the ten finalists at "Pahan Tharu-2012", an annual inter-faculty singing competition. She is a member of the University Table tennis team, and was awarded colours for the years 2009 and 2010.

2006/2007 Batch
After successfully completing the MBBS degree, Randula is currently working as a Temporary Demonstrator of Personal & Professional Development Stream at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
He received his primary education at Mahanama College, Colombo 03 and later entered Royal College, Colombo 07. As a child, he had always loved and enjoyed music, so meeting Mr. Ashoka Pushpakumara (music master of Royal College), was a turning point in his life. Randula remains grateful to "Ashoka sir" who identified his talents and greatly helped him to improve his skills in singing and stage performance.
Randula has always been a high achiever in the field of music at school, university and national level. He won the prize for the Best Singer of the school in the year 2005. He also won the awards for the Best Singer of the University at "Himidiriya 2007" and at "J’Pura Pahan Tharu 2010". In 2006 he was one of the finalists at "ITN Swarna Sammana" organized by Independence Television network. He was also granted the rare opportunity to work with Guru Amaradewa, at several live performances and music recordings, which he considers as a gift from god.
During his university career, he engaged in several extracurricular activities. He was the President of the Arts Circle in 2011/12. Apart from music he loves to play cricket.
"Kavitha 2012 was a highly competitive contest. There were many singers with outstanding talent. Winning the 2nd place is worth a lot to me, as it was not an easy task at all. Kavitha was indeed a great opportunity, and I have gathered many important and memorable experiences. I am sure these will help me travel a long way in the music world. Also Kavitha is a great chance to build strong friendships among the universities." he explains his personal experiences.
Finally he wants to thank everyone who helped him throughout his musical career. "My parents and brother were right behind me all the time. With great respect, I would like to say thank you to Mr. Ashoka Pushpakumara and Mrs. Manjula Seneviratne who are my teachers. I am grateful to Dr. N.L.A. Karunarathne - Vice Chancellor of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Mohan de Silva- Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, all the staff members of my faculty and all my friends for their tremendous support. A special thank should go to Prof. (Mrs) Sandun Senerath, Department of Botany, Faculty of Applied Sciences, USJP who was a mother to us and Dr. Rohana Weerasinghe, whom I consider as a god in the music world."
